Freedom Is Brewing...

A scholarly study has revealed that convicts in jail register to vote Democrat by a 6 to 1 margin.  Only three states currently allow convicts to vote:  New York, New Mexico, and North Carolina.  Is it any wonder there is a push to allow convicts to vote by Democrats?  And why did Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell waive Virginia law in 2013 to allow up to 350,000 non-violent felons to petition to get their privilege to vote returned?  Read more about the study HERE.

In the first of what’s likely to be a repeating theme that elections have consequences the impact of the Terry McAuliffe election has already had a negative impact and he hasn’t even been sworn in yet.  Maryland gunmaker Beretta was looking for a new home for its manufacturing employing several hundred jobs after Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley rammed radical gun control laws through last spring.  Among its sales Beretta has a military contract for sidearms having delivered over a half a million guns to the armed forces.  One of its prime relocation spots was Virginia where it already has a distribution center in Spotsylvania Co and lots of pro gun advocates.  But Virginia has now been ruled out following the McAuliffe campaign restricting gun rights and McAuliffe ads paid for by anti-gun zealot New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.  Why move to a state that is going in the same direction as Maryland?  Read more about this loss HERE.

What was it that caused Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate Ralph Northam to refuse to look at, nor shake the hand of his Republican opponent E. W. Jackson?  Was it because Jackson had just cleaned Northam’s clock by effectively disarming all of his previous false allegations? Did Northam only look at the interviewer cause he had a thing for him?  Or did Northam refuse to shake because Jackson was black?  It really doesn’t matter does it what the reason because there is no excuse for such behavior by Northam.  Had the roles been reversed what do you think would have been the lead story in all the Virginia papers the next day?  Think this helps Northam at the polls on Tuesday, Nov 5?   Watch the video of the interview, and more about this snub heard around the Commonwealth HERE.

H/T to Virginia Virtucon for breaking the story.

Virginia has removed 38,000 names from the voter rolls and the Virginia Democratic Party lost a suit to keep the names on the rolls in time for the November election.  The removal is a result of a 21 state program called Crosscheck to compare voter rolls for these states looking for duplicate voters.  From an initial list of 300,000 flagged names the Commonwealth and county voting officials have gone to great lengths to validate the names before removing them:  double checking the list; sending notices to flagged voters, and; ultimately identifying the 38,000.  There may be legitimate reasons why names appear on two or more states’ list such as moving to another state without notifying authorities.  However, as we have previously reported there have been prosecuted cases of voter fraud where a citizen votes in two states’ elections at the same.  So what kind of appearance does it create that one party would file a suit that would allow illegal practice to continue?  Read more HERE.

No, we are not talking about the movie with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. The “Bob” in this case is Robert Sarvis, Libertarian candidate for Virginia Governor.  There are some conservative voters who have indicated their intent to vote for Sarvis, and it appears in some cases the constant, mind-numbing barrage of false negative ads against Cuccinelli have taken their toll on these voter’s perceptions.  But while it is great that there are several conservative choices, are those voters really considering the outcome in this election of voting for a candidate with only 8% in the latest poll?

Below is an insightful piece by Jamie Radtke.  Jamie has been at the forefront of the liberty cause in Virginia for years, even before Ron Paul took the mantle.  Since Jamie’s letter was written both Ron Paul and son Rand Paul have endorsed and campaigned for Ken Cuccinelli.   That should say a lot.

It should be noted the Manassas Tea Party does not endorse candidates.  We are sharing Jamie's letter only to aid in informing and educating voters.

I have always appreciated you, but not for the reasons you may think. Most politicians would be grateful for your vote and support, because that is all they want and need. However, I am (and have been) grateful to you for your willingness to engage me and push me on substantive public policy issues that have helped shape my opinions on a variety of public policy subjects over the years. I have the utmost respect for your grasp of dense public policy details, your activism, your accomplishments, and your commitment to principle. It is with this perspective in mind that I would like to push your thinking on the governor’s race.

I have personally known Ken and Tiero for 10 years and one thing I have always appreciated about Ken is that you may not always agree with him, but you will always know where he stands on issues. I modeled my campaign after this example. Although I agreed with the liberty/TP movement on 95% of the issues, I was always upfront and straightforward on where I stood on all issues and my libertarian friends respected me for that. I can promise you that I would not advocate you voting for a candidate that was milquetoast, simply because he was a Republican and we had to beat the Democrat. I’d rather slice out my tongue before doing such a thing! Anybody who really knows me knows that has never been the case with me. I have a history of opposing Republican candidates that stink! I have never had an issue over the last 15 years stating my opposition to Republican candidates or elected officials - including not voting for them - it is why I am so loved within the Republican Party. But I strongly believe that Ken is not only an acceptable candidate for liberty lovers, but he has been a model and leader for us.

We should not forget that Ken Cuccinelli has been with us for years when RARELY a politician would stand alongside us, except for Delegate Bob Marshall and a few others. Ken stood with us when it was not popular to do so. In fact, he stood alongside those of us who have been fighting this battle long before the tea party/liberty movement even awakened. You must remember that many of us have been fighting in the liberty/Constitutional movement for 15+ years. He blazed the trail on opposing spending that Republicans were pushing, pushing tax cuts, opposing unconstitutional legislation that Republicans favored, pushing parental choice in schooling, promoting the nonaggression theory on the unborn human life, focusing on reforming the criminal justice system, the FED, and many more issues that have been at the heart of the liberty movement. He was the one who pro-actively reached out and embraced the liberty/TP movement and worked with us to bring us into the Republican Party to have a dominating voice. As of last year, the liberty/TP movement is the key driver on the Republican Party of Virginia executive board because of our partnership with Ken Cuccinelli.

Ken stood with us on the Firearms Freedom Bill - which would have allowed no federal intervention/regulation over guns produced in VA. He is with us on the FED, Syria/Egypt type foreign policy issues, fiscal/monetary policy, property rights, civil liberties, Health Care Freedom Act, EPA, Farm Freedom Bill (aka Boneta Bill), federalism, and the Constitution. I was heavily involved in opposing the transportation tax disaster. I ran commercials nationally against those GOP turncoats like McDonnell, Howell, Norment. Ken opposed the transportation deal. He currently has a plan to cut taxes and cut spending, which is more than we can say about any other Republican as of late.

You are not being asked to vote for someone with a record like Romney or McCain. Ken has long been identified as a partner in the Liberty/Tea Party movement and has the LONG record to prove it, as I have already very briefly described. As you look back at the liberty movement to see who has championed our causes, it has consistently been Ken Cuccinelli. I still remember when Ken got to meet Ron Paul for the first time in private at the VA Tea Party Convention – his enthusiasm was palpable.
I still remember Ken bringing in his “End the Fed” book and asking Ron Paul if he would sign it and take a picture with him – just like any of us would do! I was so amused by that interaction, but I understood his admiration for Ron Paul. Indeed, Ron Paul had been an inspiration for Ken.

Now let’s talk about Sarvis.

Robert Sarvis is a man who claims to be a Ron Paul libertarian, and yet he didn’t reach out to any of the Ron Paul leadership like Chris Stearns, Donna Holt or other C4L county leaders? Nobody knew of him enough to even know if he had ever been involved (before or now) in the Ron Paul /Liberty movement until he popped up on the screen to run as a Libertarian - and straight out of the gate as a statewide candidate for governor?! Very strange. However, Sarvis ran as a Republican for state senate, so we do know he embraced the Republican Party platform only two years ago. Those of us in the Tea Party/Liberty Movement have been slaving away for 5 years in Virginia to advance liberty – protests, lobbying, campaigns, education, outreach – and yet none of us have met Sarvis or seen him contribute to the TP/Liberty efforts over the last five years. We are constantly trying to recruit more help - especially in NOVA.  I personally know thousands of ‘conservatarian’ activists and yet none of us had any clue about Sarvis until he decided he would run for governor. He has no track record. There is a reason why VA Beach Libertarian Party chairman Robert Dean, Donna Holt, Chris Stearns, Rand Paul, myself and many other Liberty folks are supporting Ken over Sarvis.

I’ve known too many politicians that say what you want to hear to get attention. I am not going down that road anymore. I will go with what I know, trust and who has PROVEN RESULTS. Ken has the track record that compares to very few in Virginia. He has fought battles for us (and has the scars to show it) that very few have been willing to undertake - including “conservative” Republicans. He has done it at his own peril. (In fact, the very reason Ken’s fundraising has been low is because the Establishment and big corporations know that Ken is ONE OF US and won’t give!!!) Sarvis, on the other hand, has no record of putting any skin in the game for our cause.

Lastly, I would like to make one final point. This statewide ticket is perceived by media and voters alike as the “Liberty/Tea Party Dream Ticket.” They say this because it was the Liberty/Tea Party activists that took over the Republican Party and nominated Ken Cuccinelli because we knew that he had championed our cause over the last several years. The results of this election will be a reflection on our movement, whether we like it or not. The media, Dems and GOP Establishment are already trying to write the obituary. Realistically, there is about 3-6 point spread between Cucc/Mcawful right now that can be easily closed over the next several weeks with your help. The Liberty/TP movement can bring victory home – it will be a well-earned victory for all the work we have done over the last 5 years.

We have an opportunity to make a strong statement to the Establishment, but this election isn’t just about making a statement. We can actually further the cause of liberty over the next four years with the election of Ken Cuccinelli. Ken has a proven record of getting RESULTS for the liberty movement. When I think about all that he has accomplished as AG, I can’t wait to see actual results for the advancement of liberty with Ken as governor over the next four years.

I apologize for the length of this post, but I know better than to post some quick sound bite to persuade my thoughtful liberty-minded friends. It is great to promote liberty, but it is time to promote liberty AND get legislative results. Your vote for Ken will accomplish both. Your vote (and effort to bring others who are like minded to the polls) will determine the outcome. I pray you will join me in this effort.

Respectfully submitted,

Jamie Radtke

Virginia Democratic Representative to many in this area Gerry Connolly was making a mockery of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing investigating the IRS targeting of conservative groups including the Manassas Tea Party.  Being questioned by the committee was the former head of the unit that oversaw tax-exempt organizations Sarah Hall Ingram.  Connolly apparently disliked the line of questioning of other Representatives before him and so with smug distain he mockingly asked Ms. Ingram questions as if the hearing was a witch trial.  By the way Sarah Hall Ingram was removed from her IRS position . . . and is now in charge of the IRS unit responsible for enforcing the individual mandate in Obamacare!

Were we not promised the “Affordable Care Act” would be less expensive, while providing better coverage like allowing for pre-existing conditions?  Yet it should be no surprise that now as Obamacare is being implemented we learn it is anything but “affordable.”  The Heritage Foundation has estimated Obamacare rates in their Health Insurance Microsimulation Model by state and for several ages and found in only four states have rates decreased.  And when examining the chart below we could not help but notice that Virginia appears to have the dubious "honor" of having the highest rate increase of all states for all categories.  Rate increases for Virginia residents START at a mear 179% above current average rates for a family of four, and go up to 256% increase for an adult age 50.  Heritage does caveat the Virginia rates indicating it likely contains data entry errors, and by removing the suspected errors the rates would come down to only a 115% increase for 27 year olds, 65% for 50 year olds, and 50% for a family of four.  What the heck is going on?   Are you happy with Obamacare now?  Do you see why Tea Party Senators and Representatives were trying to defund it?  Read about how the Hertiage Foundation came up with this data HERE

The Virginia Governor’s race has had a lot of novel campaigning, but this tactic is just weird and one has the question the wisdom of it.  Who thought it would be a good idea to have a "poor excuse" for a Ken Cuccinelli imposter at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Norfolk attempting to annoy people?

Apparently this was the doings of a California environmentalist super PAC NextGen Climate Action Committee that among other things has dropped a million dollars in ads attacking Cuccinelli, and hired a plane to fly a banner over the Virginia – Brigham Young University football game in Charlottesville indicating “Cuccinelli Roots for BYU.”

The greatest amount of contributions and support for Terry McAuliffe comes from out of state, and many of those are special interests groups like NextGen.  Think they might want some paybacks if McAuliffe is elected at our expense?

The second debate of Virginia Governor candidates Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe was on September 25, was located in Northern Virginia, and employed a panel of media asking questions of the candidates.  This debate was noteworthy in that it was the best opportunity to see both candidates as it was broadcast throughout the state, and even nationally via C-Span.  A report on the debate is available HERE, but if don’t want the report to spoil your impressions; you may watch the full one hour debate HERE.

This year the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation authorizing online voter registration as well as updating of voter information.  That capability is now available HERE.

To complete the application process online, citizens must provide their DMV customer identifier number, which appears on driver's licenses or DMV-issued identification cards. Residents who don't have either of those documents can still apply online but will be required to print and return the completed application to their local voter registrar's office.

With this new capability it has never been easier for Commonwealth citizens to register, while voter fraud experts say it has never been easier to commit voter fraud.   Like it or not the system is here now so we encourage ALL Virginia citizens to register to vote and participate in the November state election.  The deadline to register is October 15.

The Virginia Governor’s contest continued its slugfest with the release of Fast Terry a 30-minute film produced by Citizens United documenting the controversial business dealings and political opportunism of Virginia Democratic Governor candidate Terry McAuliffe.  Interviewing area citizens in a position to know and employees from his GreenTech automotive plant in Mississippi, as well as knowledgeable citizens in Franklin, Virginia where McAuliffe claims to have a pellet manufacturing facility, the video calls McAuliffe’s claims as being a “job creator” and successful businessman into question.

A trailer of the video is below and the full length version of the film is available for on-line viewing for free HERE.  Not limited to internet exposure three southern Virginia television stations have licensed to broadcast the program 20 times each until the November election date.  McAuliffe is attempting to keep the program from airing by launching an on-line campaign seeking supporters to pressure the stations to not air the film.

But those crying bias must admit that the leading liberal print media The Washington Post and New York Times have also recently produced major stories presenting damning evidence against McAuliffe’s questionable business practices, and their findings corroborate the facts in the Fast Terry film.  Further details concerning these two articles are available HERE.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”

The first Virginia Governor candidate debate should really have been named UFC 163 (Ultimate Fighting Championship) as it resembled more of a no holds barred cage fight than it did a debate with both combatants Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe attacking his opponent early and often.  Having spent years involved with the Clintons’ campaigns and their politics of personal destruction this style is typical for McAuliffe.  But the Cuccinelli camp must have learned from Romney’s experience that the tactic of turning the other cheek when attacked doesn’t work and the best defense is a good offense.  As a result McAuliffe appeared surprised a few times with Cuccinelli’s sharp verbal shots.

If you want to read all about the debate, a complete and well balanced report on it is available HERE from the Washington Times.   Who won?  Well if you want to watch the entire event and decide for yourself it is available HERE.  But several conservative pundits HERE, HERE, and HERE say McAuliffe lost, pointing out how the liberal Washington Post could not say he performed well, and it couldn’t defend one of McAuliffe’s attacks on Cuccinelli, admitting it was a three Pinocchio lie.  Even McAuliffe himself knew he didn’t win as after the debate he didn’t proclaim he had won as traditionally done.

For a third time a Democratic candidate has announced their intent to run against 13th District Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall in the 2013 November election.  This time it is a self-described “progressive” school teacher with no prior political experience, Atif Quarni.  Earlier this year two other Democratic candidates declared they would run against Marshall but dropped out several weeks later.  As Delegate Marshall has held office since 1992 and Delegate elections occur every two years, this will be Marshall’s 11th campaign.   Learn more about Mr. Quarni and his platform HERE.

On July 1 Governor Bob McDonnell’s Transportation Tax kicked in.  To learn the details on the various tax changes in that package see our June 18th blog post BOHICA.  But in exchange for increasing various taxes in the Transportation tax package such as regional sales taxes, there was to be a six cent per gallon tax decrease at the pump in Virginia gasoline taxes.  Have you seen any decrease?  Me neither.  In fact instead of decreasing, gas prices have actually INCREASED by eight cents according to AAA (see chart).  What happened?  Where's the tax decrease?

There are lots of excuses being reported for why an increase not a decrease, but doesn’t it seem like once a tax is established it never really goes away?

Is it any surprise to learn that one of the IRS bigwigs that was involved with the IRS practice of targeting Tea Party and other conservative groups was a loyal Democratic party man and big-time donor?  William Wilkins, one of only two presidential appointees at the IRS was the Chief Counsel and according to testimony at the House Ways and Means hearing Wilkins was “closely involved in some of the applications.”  This defies Administration statements that one or two low level employees at the Cincinnati office were responsible for the IRS targeting.

Before his days at the IRS Wilkins had since 1988 been a registered lobbyist involved in tax law and during that time contributed to Democratic candidates and committees involved in tax law changes.

The question is how could the White House not have known about the IRS targeting since a person they appointed was so involved with the practice?  And we are now only one step away from the White House having direct involvement in the IRS targeting.  Read all about it HERE.

Councilman Mark WolfeUPDATE:  Another article has come out concerning this issue HERE and the entire session is available to watch HERE, starting at the 43:10 minutes point in the proceedings.

Here in Manassas we are grappling with what appears to be a misuse of power by one of our city councilmen. Councilman Mark Wolfe, in Monday's city budget meeting, abandoned his previous mode of recusing himself from voting due to conflict of interest and, in fact, DID vote to fund an organization for which he serves as the unpaid executive Director of the Board and for which his wife serves as the paid Artistic Director of that organization. Mr. Wolfe cast his vote to award $23,000 in tax revenue to his own Manassas Ballet Theater as part of a package, including other non-profits.  Only two city councilmen disapproved of this action:  Councilman Marc Aveni and Councilman Ian Lovejoy.

The Manassas Tea Party believes the rule of law is a fundamental principle that protects individual liberty and we are steadfastly opposed to elected officials using their positions for personal profit. As a group of citizens concerned with government at all levels adhering to the rule of law, whether that be our federal officials complying with the constitution, our state officials adhering to the Virginia Constitution, or our local officials complying with their municipal charters and the Virginia Code, government must adhere to the law just as it holds us accountable. When elected officials depart from it, and other government officials neglect to enforce the law when other politically powerful people violate it such as the City Council except Councilman Aveni, and Councilman Lovejoy, it is up to the citizenry to demand accountability.   Several articles have come out concerning the conduct of Councilman Wolfe HERE, HERE, and including the Washington Post.

Certainly this conduct reflects badly on the Council as a whole, as the appearance of an impropriety allowed to occur creates poor perceptions on the Council and the city as well.  We encourage readers all to let the Mayor and City Council hear of your displease for such conduct.  You may reach them all with this single address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.    Despite Democrats and moderate Republicans as well as many lobbyists, Super PACs, prominent names, and all the kings’ horses, and all the kings’ men having come out in favor of the Senate-passed comprehensive immigration reform bill that includes amnesty, the bill has no chance in the House.  Why?  Tea Party elected legislators, and many major Tea Party groups are more angry about the amnesty bill then they were about Obamacare.   And the Republican establishment has no threats it can employ like cutting off funding, or carrots it can dangle like plum assignments to use to try and get them to cave, as these Tea Party legislators didn’t sell themselves to the organization to get elected.

So in essence, the Tea Party is the last line of defense against amnesty. They, and millions of conservatives calling and writing members of the House have made it clear that they will not back down.  We encourage all readers to contact their Representative as well as Tea Party-elected Representatives and encourage them to stay strong as we have their backs.  Read all about this story HERE, HERE, and an especially worthy Washington Examiner article on the subject HERE.

Just released in limited area theaters, but also available on demand such as Comcast is Ron Maxwell’s (Gettysburg and Gods and Generals) new movie Copperhead.  Reviews have been quite positive about this movie that takes a different look at the Civil War, not of battles and soldiers, but how the damages of war stretch far beyond the battlefield.  Set in upstate New York in 1862 it is an introspective of several families with different positions on the war.

Maxwell's description of the movie is: "It is a film of the war at home – of a family ripped apart by war, of fathers set against sons and daughters, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the home front during the Civil War, Copperhead the Movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war – a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time."  The movie's name comes from a term for a northern dissenter mistrusted from his abolishionist peers.

It appears a growing number of conservatives have had just about enough of the Republican Party abandoning them, what with all their pandering like on the comprehensive immigration reform bill, and continuing to move away from the party platform.  So at least for conservatives Sarah Palin and Mark Levin, starting a new party, the “Freedom Party” is being considered.  Efforts to rebuild from within have had some success with a number of Tea Party-backed Senators and Congressmen being elected.  But once in office most have been marginalized if they didn’t vote for a Republican position that went against conservative values such as raising the debt ceiling, and publically criticized such as John McCain in his attacks on Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.  So consider Sarah Palin floating this idea out there as a warning shot over the bow.  Read more about it HERE.

On Tuesday two out of four incumbent Virginia delegates who were 20 year veterans were easily defeated in GOP primary elections.  Folks like National Review Online's John Fund believe this shows the Tea Party movement is alive and well in Virginia.

The common denominator in these four Delegates and half of the Republicans in the Virginia House is they all voted for the controversial $1.2 billion transportation tax increase bill, and Tea Party groups and conservatives state-wide were infuriated by it.   As Americans for Limited Government noted at the time, it was a “quadruple insult to the tea party: 1) a tremendous tax increase to fund a 2) huge spending increase bought for with the 3) implementation of Obamacare in Virginia in a manner that 4) unconstitutionally outsources Medicaid expansion to a supercommittee.”

To get Republicans to vote for the bill Speaker of the House Bill Howell assured GOP delegates he would make sure they did not lose their seat due to their vote for the largest tax increase in Virginia history.  Howell and Lt. Governor Bill Bolling later set up PACs to help fund the campaigns of any delegate that faced a primary challenger.  As it turned out because of a very short two week window after the vote for a challenger to throw his hat into the race, only four delegates were primaried: Speaker Howell; Transportation Committee Chairman Joe May; Committee Chairman Beverly Sherwood, and Delegate Robert Orrock.

Despite being significantly better financed only Speaker Howell and Orrock survived.  Delegate Orrock barely won against an unknown challenger who even took off from campaigning for two weeks for his wedding and honeymoon.  All four challengers were Tea Party group supported.  Both the campaign of challenger Dave LaRock against Delegate Joe May, and Mark Berg challenging Delegate Bev Sherwood made their opponent's transportation vote the centerpiece of their platforms, and it paid off.

So Speaker Howell failed to protect his delegates and Tea Party groups around the state have once again served notice they will hold Republicans accountable when they do not stand strong for limited government.

Ready or not here it comes. Starting July 1 the largest tax increase in Virginia history will be coming to a wallet very close to you. This is of course the Transportation tax increase of Governor McDonnell, and his RINOs and Democrats who voted for it after making a deal. And as a Northern Virginia resident we are especially lucky as the taxes will be even higher for us. Here is how the increase will impact YOU:

• The personal property tax will increase from 3.5% to 4.3%.

• Increase the 5% retail sales and use tax paid statewide on most purchases to 6% in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads and 5.3 % in the rest of the state.

• The sales tax on purchasing vehicles (trucks and cars) increases from the current 3% to 4% on July 1, 2013, 4.1% on July 1, 2014; 4.2 % on July 1, 2015, and 4.3% on July 1, 2016.

• Except for the increased tax on motor vehicles, other tangible personal property will be taxed at 5%.

• In Northern Virginia, commercial, industrial and residential land and building sales will have an additional tax of 25 cents per $100 of value.

• Apply a $100 annual fee on alternative fuel vehicles, including hybrids.

• In Northern Virginia there will be a 3 % hotel tax.

• The tax on vending machine sales rises from 4.5% to 6% in NOVA and Hampton Roads and 5.3% elsewhere in the state.

• Heavy equipment used for contracts on road construction, railroads, docks, etc. will be taxed at 4.3%, up from 3.5%

• Replace the current 17.5 cents per gallon flat tax on gasoline with a 3.5 % wholesale sales tax paid by distributors, which will be passed on to consumers, and a 6 % wholesale sales tax on diesel fuel.

• If Congress does not pass the internet sales tax collection law, the tax on wholesale gasoline beginning January 1, 2015 will increase from 3.5% to 5.1%.(regular gas) and 6% (diesel). There is no provision in the law to revert back to 3.5% should Congress pass the internet tax law after 2015.

Many fingers are pointing at IRS Chief of the Exempt Organizations Division Lois Lerner as the source of the IRS targeting Tea Party and other conservative groups.  Now information is coming out that this was not a new and novel tactic for her.  Back in 1996 Lerner was then head of the Enforcement Division of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC).  The target then for her was an Illinois conservative running for U.S. Senate.  Republican State Rep Al Salvi was running against Democrat U.S. Rep Dick Durbin and in an “October Surprise” two frivolous FEC complaints were filed against Salve by Lerner’s office.  The complaints were used against Salvi by Durbin, and caused Salvi’s campaign to have to defend the allegations instead of being able to press the Durbin attack.  This is the same tactic Lerner employed at the IRS by keeping the Tea Party busy in the 2012 presidential campaign.  Lerner even offered Salvi a deal: “Promise me you will never run for office again, and we’ll drop this case,” much the same deal offered to the Coalition for Life of Iowa in exchange for leaving Planned Parenthood alone.  There are many more interesting details to this story HERE, but by now it should be perfectly clear that Lois Lerner is a REPEAT OFFENDER!

Yesterday the House Ways and Means Committee conducted a hearing on the IRS targeting of conservative groups. No government officials were being questioned this time, it was time to hear from some of those that had been targeted. And the entire hearing was significant as citizens came to Washington to stand up for their Constitutional rights. The Blaze found 4 moments in the hearing that were most memorable:

  • Representative Jim McDermott ridiculously claiming the scandal could have been avoided if conservative groups just hadn't applied for tax-exempt status.
  • Powerful testimony by Becky Gerritso, founder of the Wetumpka (Alabama) Tea Party. Becky recounts the IRS abuse of her Tea Party group, which was similar to the Manassas Tea Party. She represents well our feelings on the matter and her statement is excellent and worth watching.
  • Shocking allegations by Sue Martinek, President of the Coalition for Life of Iowa who was told by the IRS that they would approve her application if she promised her group would leave Planned Parenthood alone, and requested details on their "prayer meetings."
  • John Eastman, Chairman of the National Organization for Marriage has proof that donor lists provided to the IRS at their request were intentionally leaked by the IRS to groups hostile to his organization.

The videos of these memorable moments, and more details are available HERE. Watch this entire noteworthy hearing HERE.

On the fourth ballot in a long Virginia Republican convention E.W. Jackson takes the nomination as Virginia’s GOP Lieutenant Governor candidate.  Jackson who dislikes racial politics received the largest response of the day from convention delegates when he told them: “I’m no African-American, I’m an American!”  Details on his selection and the convention are available in this article, which indicates the Ken Cuccinelli candidacy, and now E.W. Jackson selection “cements the tea party’s takeover of the state GOP apparatus.”

Last month the Manassas Tea Party hosted a GOP Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General Candidates’ Forum and then held a straw poll afterwards.  The first video is E.W. Jackson’s initial remarks at the Forum.  He starts speaking at the 7:30 point in the video.  But demonstrating a good finger on the pulse of the GOP delegates, the straw poll held after the Forum had E.W. Jackson and local candidate Corey Stewart tied as the leading vote getters.  Stewart finished third at the Virginia Republican convention.  Is the Manassas Tea Party a good bell-weather indicator of results?

UPDATE:  The second video is Jackson's convention speech.

A major portion of the FY14 Manassas City budget increase is driven by infrastructure modernization.  The city's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) effort identifies and plans on major construction to schools, city infrastructure like sewer systems, parks, roads, and the Manassas airport for the next five years. The current plan involves over one hundred projects which incurs over $400 million in debt. Incremental property tax increases of several percent each year over five years were originally proposed by the City Manager to support all of these projects. The complete CIP as originally proposed is HERE.  However, on March 23 the City Council in a 4-1 vote decided to advertise a rate for FY14 alone which is 16% greater than the current recently higher assessed property tax rate.  See our March 24 blog post below for further details.

Meanwhile taxpayers observed the proceedings of the CIP and the FY14 budget and were very concerned.  Manassas Tea Party members and other outraged citizens had called and emailed City Council, attended work sessions and spoken out at Citizens' Time to make it clear that the timing for a big tax increase in the city couldn't be much worse. To drive home the point, a petition with well over 200 signatures was collected and delivered to Council on April 1, which essentially said, "No more new taxes!"

In subsequent work sessions the Council eliminated from the CIP only one major construction effort – a fire station, and Public Schools decided to lease space instead of building a new Administration building.  So from what started out as literally a “wish-list” of 106 projects, the Council ever-mindful of the concerns of the taxpayer carefully scrubbed the list and eliminated 2 projects!   Then on April 3 the Council in either defiance or a terrible case of tone-deafness voted 4-2 to propose a 10.4% tax increase, approving taxing residents for the entire CIP in the first year, rather than over a five year span.   Besides being terrible for taxpayers this idea of front loading all the costs of the CIP in the first year is risky and unnecessary.  See the “Did You Know” for details.

According to a new study by the George Mason University’s Mercatus Center Virginia residents enjoy significantly more freedoms than Marylanders. In fact in the Freedom in the 50 States study Virginia does pretty well at #8 overall, while “Free State” Maryland, is anything but coming in at #44.

The study examines fiscal, regulatory, and personal freedoms, which researchers determine by scoring over 200 policies looking at factors such as tax burden, tort abuse, and gun control laws.  According to Professor William Ruger, co-author of the study the commonwealth scored well because it is a right-to-work state, and because it’s “tort system is one of the best in the country.” It allows residents to openly carry firearms and its 30 cents-per-pack cigarette tax is the lowest in the nation.

Which states are the most free? The Dakotas are #1 and #2. The least free? By far it was New York. So relatively speaking we are better off than most states. Feel the freedom!

Read the Washington Examiner article on the study HERE, or HERE is the website on the study with lots of quick, easy to read maps and charts.

Apparently meant to be an honor, but it seems humorously ironic, a small species of trapdoor spider has been named for our 44th president. The Barack Obama spider Aptostichus barackobamai is one of 33 new species of spiders identified here in America. Found in the southwest states, this spider is rarely seen because they live in burrows underground. As their name suggests, they build protective trapdoors made from soil, sand and silk, which they hide behind, waiting to pounce on passing prey. Read more HERE.

As indicated in this article and on our front page Manassas City Council is advertising a massive tax increase.  In simple math, the advertised rate will increase your already high property taxes about $1 per thousand of your property’s assessed value.  This advertised tax rate represents about a 16% hike, and coupled with recent increased property assessments the tax impact will be major!  Please note this is a tax rate to be advertised, it legally cannot go higher, but the Council may decide to lower it.  The driver for this potential tax increase is Manassas City Council voted 4-1 to accelerate the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) tax burden.  Read HERE where a local blogger completely destroys the premise that accelerating the tax increase will actually save money.

How are you going to pay even more taxes when you consider recent additional taxes being levied on everyone's payroll; impending Obamacare health care costs increases; Virginia passing the largest tax increase in history; high unemployment, and; the devastation of Sequestration on citizens in this area?  We support essential city CIP infrastructure improvements, but only what can be executed without raising taxes.

We Are Taxed Enough Already!

When the InsideNova news article appeared this was the reaction by the citizens.

There is usually a price to pay for going against your parties’ fundamental principles.  Governor Bob McDonnell is learning that, and some on the Manassas City Council best learn some lessons as well.  So ticked off are Virginia Tea Party folks at Governor McDonnell for breaking his promise to never raise taxes by orchestrating the largest Virginia tax increase, that they have launched a TV ad campaign against him.  But you won’t see the ads around here.  The ads are airing in Iowa and New Hampshire, which are early Presidential primary states, blasting McDonnell who is expected to make a 2016 Presidential run.  “Don’t be fooled” and “you can’t believe a word he says” Virginia Tea Party Federation co-founder Jamie Radtke indicates in the voice over of the ad.  Here is the ad:

Whether it be the White House tours or ICE releasing illegal aliens, more and more it is being shown that the Administration is not telling the truth when it comes to the impact of Sequestration.  Here is the latest case.  Enter Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), a doctor from Baltimore in a House Appropriations Committee subcommittee hearing, questions Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director Thomas Frieden about the impact sequester cuts will have on health care.  The White House had put out a completely fraudulent number about vaccinations and diseases and kids that wouldn't be treated if the sequester happened. In a survey of 827 Prince William County citizens a whopping 69.9% of respondents indicated they favored the Flat Tax Bill with no tax increases as proposed by Supervisor Pete Candland and Chairman Corey Stewart. The County Executive’s proposed plan which would require a 4% increase in taxes attracted only 20.4% of voters, and Supervisors Jenkins/Principi plan with a 12% increase in property taxes received 5.8% of voters.
With such a large response and commanding results county supervisors would best heed their constituents wishes or pay the price at the ballot box. Additionally, as Prince William surrounds Manassas city, and city and county tax rates are similar, chances are if Manassas City residents were survyed they would produce comparable results.  The Manassas City Council should pay attention to these results as well as they are looking at raising taxes even higher than the largest Prince William tax plan at 16% for FY14.  Full details on the survey by the Sheriff of Nottingham HERE.

Bob McDonnell after promising when he ran for governor he would never raise taxes proceeded to push the Republican-controlled General Assembly and make terrible deals with Democratic legislators on Medicaid expansion which led to the Assembly approving the largest Virginia tax increase in history of  $6.1 billion.  So much for being fiscally conservative!  His sell out caused national distain with pundits like Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Sean Hannity all being critical of his efforts.  Among the tax hikes in this bill:

  • Sales tax hike from 5 to 5.3 percent
  • Additional sales tax hike of .7 percent in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia
  • Personal property tax hike from 3.5 percent to 4.3 percent
  • Tangible personal property tax hike to 5 percent
  • 3 percent Northern Virginia hotel tax
  • Diesel tax hike from 17.5 cents per gallon to 6 percent tax on wholesale diesel, roughly a 5 cent per gallon increase
  • Car tax hike from 3 percent to 4 percent in 2013, 4.1 percent in 2014, 4.2 percent in 2015, and 4.3 percent in 2016

The Americans for Tax Reform indicated: “This was not a compromise. It was a surrender of principle and policy. There were no spending cuts or tough choices. This was Bob McDonnell and some Republican Delegates and Senators, in league with almost all Democrats, betraying Virginia taxpayers.”

Conservatives should read an excellent Red State article HERE detailing the backstory and identifying General Assembly Republicans that joined in the betrayal.

On February 12 Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is releasing a book The Last Line of Defense - The New Fight for American Liberty.  The book is described by the publisher thus:

“With Obamacare and agencies like the EPA, the FCC, and the National Labor Relations Board attempting to exercise unprecedented control over the American people, the Obama Administration was breaking federal laws, ignoring federal courts, and violating the Constitution to achieve its goals of redistributing wealth, concentrating power in Washington, and rewarding its supporters.

Without enough lawmakers in Washington devoted to protecting the rule of law to stop the federal government's liberty-stealing power grab, the battle had to be waged in an unprecedented way: from the states -- just as our Founding Fathers intended.

The man who led the charge was Ken Cuccinelli, the first state attorney general to argue in federal court against Obamacare, an unapologetic defender of the Constitution, and a man admirers and detractors alike said "was tea party long before there was a Tea Party."”

The book provides a behind-the-scenes, plain-spoken account of the myriad of legal battles in which states have pushed back against what they believe are federal abuses of power. The book also describes why the Founding Fathers created a federal government of limited powers and why constitutional limits on that power are still important today – to protect liberty.

By hook or crook the Obama administration is trying to get its way.  Recall the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling that said corporations and unions could not have limits placed on their political expenditures, and have to disclose political contributions.  Unable to ram through legislation in Congress to require limits and disclose the Obama administration is bypassing Congress and is attempting to use regulation to get its way.

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporate Finance has begun the steps necessary to create a regulation that would in many ways mirror the DISCLOSE Act — a bill Senate Democrats have failed to pass through Congress.  But like a spoiled child the administration has indicated they would use any means including constitutional amendment to change the court decision.

Fighting back against this first amendment right infringement is Senator Mitch McConnell. Saying the president is attempting to “silence [his] critics” and “there are few rights more sacred than those protected by our First Amendment.”  “This action would be a direct assault on those rights, which is one of the chief reasons Congress has defeated similar proposals multiple times,” he indicated.  Read the full story HERE.

The presumptive Democratic candidate for Virginia Governor, Terry McAuliffe recently met with Lt. Governor Bill Bolling and even a blind man can see what is going on.

Bolling dropped out of the governor’s race in November because he faced an uphill battle with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the Republican nomination.  But it is pretty clear Bolling has hard feelings for Cuccinelli and the way the Virginia GOP changed the nomination process.  As a result Bolling has been testing the waters to run as an Independent.

Terry McAuliffe would like nothing better than for Bolling to abandon the Republican party and run as that would take votes away from Cuccinelli and almost guarantee a McAuliffe victory.  Heck you can bet he would even throw some money Bolling’s way to sweeten the pot.  Read all about McAuliffe and Bolling scheming and conniving HERE while asking yourself: Are these characters who I want as the next Commonwealth Governor?

No wonder Downton Abbey is such a hit in America and has become one of the most widely watched television shows in the world. It covertly espouses conservative values! This British drama television series depicts the lives of an aristocratic family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era – with great events in history having an effect on their lives and on the British social hierarchy. Watching Downton Abbey, one can see similarities of the aristocratic Edwardian era and the Obama ruling class. Both systems foster class envy for the lower, entrenched classes. Upward mobility is very difficult. In both, the ultra rich and powerful are excused from many of life’s requirements of the lesser classes. But more subtle are conservative values that various characters champion that really adds flavor to the drama.

You don’t have to wait until the next episode of the continuing drama to find what those conservative values are, and what characters promote them. Just go HERE.

JAN 29 UPDATE:  The bill failed to get out of the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee, so it is dead for this year.

Virginia is one of 48 states that currently uses the "winner-take-all" method for Presidental elections. However, state Senator Charles Carrico Sr. (R-Galax) has introduced a bill (SB723) in the current General Assembly Session that would change that and instead allocate Virginia's 13 electoral votes based on election returns by congressional districts. Read more about it HERE. Several other states have pending legislation to change to a similar system and the liberals are having a fit. Had the new method been in effect for the 2012 election, and had all other factors been equal, President Obama would have won six Virginia electoral votes (the two at-large plus four congressional districts) but Republican Mitt Romney would have won seven votes for having won seven of the congressional districts. You can check the status of the bill HERE. We welcome your thoughts on whether this is a good idea or not here.

UPDATE:  ICE has notified Prince William County, Manassas City, and other participating localities around the country that it is extending a limited version of the 287g program until at least June 30, 2013.  Read more about the Prince William Co. impact HERE.  In its more limited version immigration status could only be checked by the local jail, not out in the field by police officers.  This means only offenders of serious crimes could be checked.

In a blatant political move Obama’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office notified Prince William County that it would end it’s highly successful 287g program that took over 5,000 criminal illegal aliens out of the county. The 287g program was the keystone to PWC’s policy passed in 2007 that Prince William County’s Chairman Corey Stewart credits with a 49% decrease in crime in the county. However, Prince William County is not being singled out by this action as Manassas City and 62 other communities around the country are also receiving the same notice. Over at the BVBL blog they suggest: “President Obama has demonstrated that he would rather you be a victim of a crime committed by illegal aliens than make any effort to get and keep illegal aliens out of our country because they might somehow end up being a useful voting bloc in the future.”  Read more HERE.

Filmmaker Andrew Marcus stumbled into Andrew Breitbart’s path as Marcus began following the Tea Party.  Marcus couldn’t stop following Andrew Breitbart sweep the country and sweeping up everything in his path.  That experience lasted two years.  The filmmaker enjoyed exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to Andrew Breitbart during his various confrontations with the media. The movie that resulted, called Hating Breitbart, is largely about the subject's battles against the mainstream media over the way it allegedly unfairly maligns the Tea Party movement.  “I was always very shocked at the things that would unfold in front of our cameras, but you know reliably every time we turned them on and he was around crazy stuff would happen,” Marcus said.  While Andrew Breitbart may be gone, this film masterfully captures the man who influenced others to stand up to the deliberate political censorship occurring in the media and the corruption that exists within government on all levels.  Read more about the making of the movie HERE.

The film’s release in theaters was recently pushed back until October 19th as the MPAA in an apparent politically motivated decision gave the movie an “R” rating due to “F” bombs mainly hurled at Breitbart by liberals.  So Marcus scrubbed everybody’s use of the language except for four by Breitbart himself as he deemed it important to the integrity of the film.  The results – the MPAA still hung the “R” rating on the movie.  A PG-13 rating still allows for such language.  And some pretty racy and smutty language-filled films get PG-13 ratings these days.  Yet there's no sex and no direct violence in the movie and it's getting an “R.”  MPAA's Chairman happens to be former five-term U.S. Democratic Senator, Christopher Dodd.  Breitbart's web sites went after Dodd's Countrywide loan connections even after he left the Senate in early 2011.  So there appears to be some retribution involved.  Read more about the controversy HERE.

The Hating Breitbart premier will be in only four cities at four theaters on Friday, October 19.  Fortunately, one of those locations is local at the Regal Ballston Common theater in Arlington.  Details and tickets available HERE.

According to a report from the non-partisan and independent American Action Forum (AAF) fully implementing Obamacare regulations have already cost the U.S. economy $27.6 billion and more than 30,000 jobs.  AAF Sam Batkins Director of Regulatory Policy comments: “This analysis barely scratches the surface of the regulatory impact of this law. Not only is there still over a year until the law is fully implemented, but we only looked at data that the Administration itself has made public. By looking only at the Administration’s own numbers, they are essentially conceding the fact that the ACA will place billions of dollars in regulatory burdens on the private sector and further strain states’ budgets. With still 15 months until full implementation there’s sure to be more regulatory costs.”  Read more HERE

Romney dominated Obama from the first bell. The president was cowering with his head down as Romney landed blow after blow.

But we shouldn’t be surprised by the results. During the primaries Mitt took on multiple opponents at one time and was very effective. Last night he only had to go one-on-one with possibly the most inept president in history. A president with a laughable four year record that no one could defend.

The chickens came home to roost last night for Obama. He has enjoyed the most intimate relationship with the press since JFK. He has never been challenged in four years by the media. Not once. On the contrary, they have covered for him, lied for him, protected him, sold their integrity for him, worshipped him. The emperor was not prepared to face a challenger because no one in the press corps, since 2008 has had the guts to tell him he is without clothes. And perhaps the media palace guard has done their president a disservice. Romney assailed him relentlessly last night and Obama simply didn’t know how to handle it.

Romney, as a capitalist and former CEO of Bain Capital, is all about efficiency. He packed in more facts, figures, attacks, quips, and plans in his allotted two-minute speaking slots than Obama managed in an hour. Obama stammered and stuttered with an agonizingly slow cadence such that it was hard to tell what point he was even addressing.

Romney has many flaws but he is an accomplished businessman. He studied and practiced the science of economics for decades. Successfully so. The president, on the other hand, has never held a job in the private sector, has never had to meet a payroll, hold a P&L, face competition in the free market. So, as a result, he literally doesn’t understand free market economics. His policies over the last four years have born that out. Economic truths as basic as supply and demand have been thrown out the window. Obama was so outmatched in this area last night it was almost disturbing. It was pitiful.

Romney looked like a professor scolding a "D" student. And Obama, with his eyes looking at the floor the entire night, looked like the "D" student.

The most lopsided debate beatdown I’ve ever seen. And that includes the Reagan/Mondale bouts.

Next up…Ryan vs. Biden.

UPDATE: A Federal judge ruled the Michigan Secretary of State must remove the citizenship question box from the voter registration form, but for a curious reason: some local election clerks were refusing to place the citizenship question on ballot applications while others planned to comply, creating a violation of voters' constitutional equal-protection rights.  Read more HERE.

In the latest attempt of liberals to open the November elections to every cat, dog, dead person, and even non-citizens, the ACLU and SEIU have sued the Michigan Secretary of State claiming having the “Are you a U.S. Citizen?” checkbox on their ballot application is voter suppression.  The case will go to court next week, but the mad scramble to protect vote fraud operations had degenerated into this level of absolute lunacy. Devoid of anything approaching a logical argument, vote fraud defenders are down to describing a simple “Yes or No” question on ballot applications as a “roadblock” that will “confuse” and “intimidate” minority voters.

Michigan has real problems with illegitimate voters. The Detroit News reports that a recent review of 58,000 driver’s licenses and state ID cards found 963 noncitizens registered to vote… and 54 of them had already voted illegally, a total of 95 times. These results were extrapolated using census estimates of Michigan’s non-citizen population, and estimated that 4,000 noncitizens might be registered to vote.  Read about the lunacy HERE.

Since President Obama took office the number of illegal aliens on food stamps has nearly doubled according to Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee from 994,000 to over 1,634,000. Illegal immigrants are not legally eligible for food stamps. Yet the USDA has an outreach effort to the Mexican government, and courting Mexican Americans and Mexican illegal aliens living and working in the United States to increase food stamp participation. USDA indicates they have met with the Mexican government at least 30 times since 2008, but there may have been more meetings as USDA didn’t record all the meetings. To promote food stamps directly to Mexican Americans and illegal aliens the USDA has produced and broadcast soap opera-like Spanish language ‘radio novelas’ about the benefits of enrolling in the food stamp program, even insulting characters who wish not to enroll. Indeed, the premise of the novelas is pressuring (successfully) someone to enroll who claims they have sufficient financial resources and not require government assistance. Alabama Republican Senator Jeff Sessions has been investigating this activity and indicates: “The number of non-citizens receiving food stamp support has doubled since the president took office. Such a policy defies rational thinking during a time of weak growth, high debt, and increasing welfare dependency. President Obama will have to defend this alarming partnership to the American people.”  Maybe this has something to do with why President Obama has been labeled “the Food Stamp President? According to a UCLA academic study Republican women politicians look more feminine than their Democratic counterparts. In fact, the relationship is so strong that politically uninformed undergraduates were able to determine the political affiliation of the representatives with an overall accuracy rate that exceeded chance, and the accuracy of those predications increased in direct relation to the lawmaker's proximity to feminine norms. Internal emails obtained through a FOIA request show Attorney General Eric Holder’s Department of Justice communications staff has collaborated on dozens of occasions with the left-wing Soros-funded Media Matters for America in an attempt to quell news stories about scandals plaguing Holder and America’s top law enforcement agency such as Fast and Furious.  In some cases the communications between the two groups started as soon as a conservative media outlet was reporting it. Media Matters was practically whispering in their ear what to say in response to conservative media reports. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa sees this as akin to Nixon’s Enemies List and has called for hearings, removal of tax exempt status for Media Matters, and the firing of Justice communications staff involved. But he admits seeing the Justice’s communications staff political appointees packing their bags on November 7 would help take care of the matter(s).  More HERE.

Here we have proof that the Justice Department is actively working with a left-wing activist group in order to influence press coverage. Media Matters is acting as a de-facto “Department of Propaganda” all in order to skew the media’s reporting on its many scandals. It’s more evidence that the Justice Department is more interested in coverups than in actually achieving justice.

Recently a bunch of polls by primarily media organizations reported Obama now surging into the lead over Romney. The only problem is in order to come up with those numbers the pollsters had to grossly oversample Democrats and undersample Republicans and independents. So the figures are SKEWED! Once the data is seen through the prism of more legitimate Rasmussen sampling techniques Romney leads in all the polls. Read the whole story HERE, by clicking on any of the polls.

Wendy Rosen, the Democratic candidate for Maryland's First Congressional District, dropped out of the race after state party officials said she committed fraud by voting in both Maryland and Florida in recent elections.  In a letter to Maryland’s attorney general and the state prosecutor, the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party wrote that Ms. Rosen has been registered to vote in both Florida and Maryland since at least 2006. Yvette Lewis, the party chairwoman, also said in the letter that Ms. Rosen voted in the 2006 general election and the 2008 presidential primaries in both Florida and Maryland.  Oops!  Read more HERE about the latest example of voter fraud.

After the ugly scene that played out on the floor of the Democratic National Convention, during which the Democratic Party amended their platform to reinstate “God” and mention that Jerusalem is the capital of Isreal, CNN's Anderson Cooper went to DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her reaction to the entire ordeal. But after she spoke, Cooper determined she was living in an “alternate universe.” Here's more and the video.

There has recently been a movement afoot called "Manassas Votes". Have you run into them outside your local grocery stores or at the Farmer’s Market? They have been gathering signatures for a ballot initiative that, if passed, would move our city elections from May to November. The organization collected the required number of signatures so the City of Manassas voters will have a referendum question to vote on in the November election. This is not good for a number of reasons. The professed goals of this organization are to save the city money and get more citizens engaged in the voting process at the city level. But consider a few facts:

1). The city spends not $10,000 as is being claimed on local elections but $100. The state reimburses the city for all but that $100. I think we can afford this expenditure.

2). Should the city elections be moved to November, congressional and presidential races would spur relatively massive turnout. This would mean that a city council candidate who normally would need a budget to reach 2,500 voters as is the case in a May election would now need to communicate his or her message to roughly 20,000 voters. Who, on a tight budget, can afford to run for city council with those kinds of numbers? The independently wealthy? Sure. Those who would consider "selling out" to special interests? Definitely. The middle class "regular Joes/Janes" who work a 9 to 5 job? Almost impossible.

3). Do we really want thousands of disinterested, disengaged and uninformed voters flooding to the polls, whose singular purpose is to vote for a statewide or national candidate while having no insight into city issues/candidates? Don't we want voters, regardless of party affiliation, to have paid attention to what's at stake? Having elections in November will only further dilute the attentions of the Manassas voter not increase it.

Leave our city elections right where they are and let the national and state elections take care of themselves!

Manassas, Vote NO to November Elections!

2016 Obama's America, is likely to stun Americans who haven’t looked into their president’s formative years.  As detailed in an article by Manassas Tea Party supporter and World Net Daily contributor Anita Crane, "the roots of the current president’s infamous “you didn’t build that” speech go back to Kenya and the anti-colonialism seeded in his worldview."  Here is the trailer to what looks to be an eye-opening movie:

A Tea Party candidate convincingly defeated the establishment Republican favorite in Texas' run-off primary election on Tuesday, capturing the Republican nomination to replace retiring US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Former state solicitor general Ted Cruz won the support of fiercely conservative voters over the mainstream Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst in a major upset in one of the country's most staunchly Republican states.

The race had been closely watched nationally as one of the most vivid contrasts between the Republican mainstream and grassroots conservative activists.  Cruz, who is Cuban-American is already being called the next Marco Rubio as he had a similar race to Rubio.  Read more about the victory HERE

Sarah Palin who endorsed Cruz posted on Facebook: “Congratulations to Ted Cruz! This is a victory both for Ted and for the grassroots Tea Party movement. This primary race has always been about the kind of leadership we need in D.C. Our goal is not just about changing the majority in the Senate. It is about the kind of leadership we want. Ted Cruz represents the kind of strong conservative leadership we want in D.C.”

UPDATE: The Virginia State Board of Elections has decided NOT to call for an investigation of the Voter Participation Center and will NOT take action on a Romney campaign request to examine voter registration forms submitted by VPC’s over the last two months.  Instead the State Board of Elections is working with the Voter Participation Center to change their mailer and "improve the group's registration processes".

Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is calling on Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to investigate voter registration forms being sent to the dead, children, family pets, and felons ineligible to vote from predominantly Democratic-leaning voting blocs.  The mailings originate from the Soros-funded Voter Participation Center and appear official, arriving in privacy envelopes with the headline “VOTER REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED” and have a return address which appears to be the Virginia State Board of Elections, but actually sends the forms to a rogue address.  Read more about this HERE.  But as important as Virginia is on the Presidental election would you want the outcome determined because of voter fraud?

This series will take us on a journey from his own, early, personal patriotic baseline, through what he hopes will be a more accurate, reasoned and authentic understanding of patriotism, and then through a collection of patriotic aberrations and misfires, and finally into what he believes will be a fresh and invigorating understanding of what it means to love and support one’s country for the right reasons.
